The South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association has recently created its own Inspiration Award to recognize, celebrate, and share the journey that injured workers experience during their recovery and return to employment. The Inspiration Award will also acknowledge the support, assistance, and outstanding efforts provided by a workers’ compensation team who goes above and beyond the usual in helping with and facilitating the injured workers’ recovery. Nominations for the 2016 Inspiration Award are being accepted through June 1, 2016. Nominations must be submitted by an active SCWCEA member, the injured worker must have been a part of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation system, and the injured worker must consent to the nomination. A nomination form can be found at the SCWCEA website. The 2016 Inspiration Award will be presented during the 40th Annual Educational Conference on Workers’ Compensation from October 9 through October 12, 2016 at the Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The individual award recipient will receive a plaque, and a master plaque will be displayed at the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission with the award winner’s name, year of award, and photograph.
Emmanuel Martinez was the recipient of the 2015 award. Emmanuel suffered a severe work place injury on March 6, 2000, after which he began to draw and paint. He worked hard at developing his skills by making art a part of his rehabilitation and now it is his ongoing life’s work. Emmanuel produces many paintings, mostly landscapes, and mostly in oils. Emmanuel welcomes the opportunity to share his paintings and story with those who may find inspiration in them. Emmanuel’s story is really amazing and can also be found on the SCWCEA website and here.
