Accounting and Finance
The Accounting Department's mission is to process and disseminate information efficiently and effectively through integrity, excellence, teamwork and service. This information includes the measurement and communication of financial and non-financial information that will inform the partners and staff and facilitate rational financial, economic and policy decisions for our firm. The Billing arm of the Accounting Department works to provide clear and concise statements to our clients using the many methods available to us. These methods include electronic billing via the internet, email and US mail. For electronic billing, we currently use Allegient SX, BottomLine Legal Exchange, Serengeti Tracker, Tymetrix and Tymetrix 360; just to name a few.
Accounting Staff
Tim Brooks, Director of Accounting & Finance
As Director of Accounting & Finance, Tim Brooks manages the accounting cycle and a staff who strives for excellence in providing superior service. He currently holds a bachelor of science with a major in accounting and minor in economics. He is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and has comprehensive experience in audit, taxation, and all aspects of the accounting function including financial statement analysis. He also serves in various leadership capacities in the community.

Human Resources
Director of Human Resources Phyllis Walterhouse joined the firm in 2000 and manages the implementation and administration of human resources programs, policies, procedures and practices. She is responsible for developing and managing professional recruitment and employee relations as well as administering compensation and benefits.
Phyllis is a South Carolina native and holds a bachelor's in Business Administration from the College of Charleston. She began her career in human resources with GF Office Furniture in East Hartford, Conn., in 1987 and has also served as Regional Human Resources Manager for National Linen Service and as Human Resources Manager for Eckerd Corporation's Headquarters Office in Clearwater, Fla. She is active in the Society of Human Resource Management, the Carolina Association of Legal Assistants and the Association of Legal Administrators.

Information Technology

Computer systems, online legal databases and secure methods of communication ensure accurate and prompt case management and communication with the client. The firm employs information technology innovation wherever possible to reduce the cost and improve the quality of our legal services. Staff have at their disposal a wide variety of authoritative online research material, collaboration software, and mobility tools which enable the firm to handle the time-sensitive needs of clients in a secure fashion. By using industry-standard technologies, the firm ensures the greatest communications compatibility practicable. The firm is technologically agile and responds quickly as needs demand. Clients enjoy the peace of mind that comes with understanding that though our firm has a rich history, it is one of constant innovation.
Cy Nordoff is the firm’s Director of Information Technology and has been with the firm’s IT Department for 10 years. As Director, he is responsible for all operations of the information technology (IT) department, including database development, training and education programs, unified messaging, LAN/WAN design, Helpdesk, and managing IT staff. He has a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and has been working in the IT field for more than 14 years. Prior to working at YCR, he worked on the West Coast for Barclays Global Investors, Merrill Lynch and several dot com companies.

Some of the technologies employed daily include:
- Mobility and Remote Access. Attorneys use a variety of means for communication 24x7x365 while out of the office. Encrypted connections allow applications to be accessed from internet-connected computers outside of the office. Handheld devices such as blackberries and smartphones are widely utilized to provide constant contact with clients and legal team members.
- Document Imaging. High-speed scanners turn thousands of pages of documents into electronic files which can easily be transferred and made part of a permanent electronic case file.
- Document Assembly. Documents are assembled using our state-of-the-art ProLaw software suite. Information from client records within our ProLaw SQL database is efficiently and accurately merged to create case-related documents.
- Legal Research. The firm's legal professionals use the most up-to-date online systems available from Lexis-Nexis in order to provide solutions that are timely, accurate, and credible.
- Client Communications. The firm was an early adopter of the practice of unified messaging. From each computer in the firm, our professionals can easily communicate with clients via email, fax, phone, and voicemail. Email, voicemail, and faxes are directed to each employee’s individual inbox.
Property Management
As director of purchasing and facilities management, Mark Hoffman handles the purchase of equipment and supplies and coordinates office moves, interiors, telephone systems and property management. In addition, he has guided the firm through three accounting system conversions. In 1985, Mark received a degree in a business administration, with an emphasis in accounting, from the College of Charleston. He joined YCR in 1982 as a file clerk and quickly progressed to file clerk supervisor, assistant bookkeeper, billing department supervisor and accounting manager.
